Green tea diet and its health benefits
One of major health issues in our society today is obesity. More than half of the American population is either overweight or obese, and as a result diet and weight loss plans have become increasingly popular. Not all diet plans are effective nor are they risk-free. The safer alternative for people wanting to lose the extra weight is a green tea diet.
There are many health benefits associated with having a green tea diet. One of these benefits is the prevention of cancer. Certain substances found in green tea are said to aid in the destruction of cancer cells without harming the neighboring tissues. This substance is called Epigallocatechin Gallate or EGCG.
The EGCG in a green tea diet is also helpful in increasing the body’s 24 hour energy expenditure. A study showed that there was a 4 percent increase of the body’s natural energy expenditure. People who were on a green tea diet were more likely to use up more fats than those not on a green tea diet.
A green tea diet is also said to greatly decrease cholesterol levels, and it can also be a potential cure for obesity. Catechin polyphenols present in green tea diet can delay gastric and pancreatic lipases reaction in the body. These enzymes are responsible for converting calories into fats. Delaying these enzymes can stop fats from being stored, thus preventing obesity.
While the jury is still out on whether or not a green tea diet is the solution to a healthy and fat-free life, the positive testimonies from people on a green tea diet are increasing by the day. It never hurts to try out an alternative to losing weight especially when it has benefits like the green tea diet.
